Junior Tournaments

Earlier this year, Elly was reassessing the competition pathway/experience, especially after taking her own daughter to tournaments. After seeing a variety of situations, she was keen to try to give children a positive learning experience at tournaments and Elly decided to gain her referees license, which she now has.

Elly has now organised a few tournaments at Kings. Obviously a tournament is a competition and children should be allowed to be competitive, however, Elly plans to make the emphasis of her tournaments on a growth mindset and to help children see tournaments as a place where they can develop their tennis, learn and have fun.

Entering your first tournament can be daunting and it relies on parents to do the entering when the kids are young, ideally you start with Grade 5 tournaments or even Grade 6. Ask your coach if they think you are ready – don’t be shy about getting stuck in!
